Dry Ice Blasting: Does it Generate Waste?

Dry ice blasting uses dry ice (solid carbon dioxide) as a cleaning medium. Using the power of an air compressor, these dry ice pellets are sprayed at high speed onto the surface being cleaned. When the dry ice pellets come into contact with the surface, they rapidly sublimate, transforming from a solid state into carbon dioxide. During this process, the dry ice rapidly expands in volume (approximately 800 times), exerting a powerful impact on dirt and removing it. Simultaneously, the dry ice absorbs a significant amount of heat during sublimation, rapidly cooling the surface and causing brittleness and cracking.

Based on its operating principle, during the dry ice blasting process, all dry ice pellets sublimate into gaseous carbon dioxide, which is then discharged directly into the air. Air already contains carbon dioxide, and the amount generated during dry ice blasting is relatively small, posing no additional burden on the atmospheric environment and not considered secondary waste.

Dry ice blasting completely sublimates during the cleaning process, generating no new solid or liquid secondary waste. Whether the removed dirt is considered secondary waste depends on the nature of the dirt. When used correctly and properly handled, dry ice blasting is an environmentally friendly and efficient cleaning device that effectively reduces secondary waste and provides strong support for companies to achieve green production. With the continuous improvement of environmental awareness and the continuous development of related technologies, the application prospects of dry ice blasting in the industrial field will be even broader.http://www.ntpco2.com
